The Other Wilkins Family...

When Brad and I moved down to Texas, we came with no family or MAJOR support other than our church. Eventually, we found ourselves wrapped up into a family and adopted. They are now our pseudo parents and Tieg lovingly calls them Grandma, Grandpa, aunt, uncle, etc. Well, my dear "sister" and her family were leaving to Spain and so last minute-- really, last minute, they were flying out about 3 hours after this photo shoot I took-- we decided to take family photos because her husband and the family hadn't been together for months at a time. Jimmy's brother's pictures is the post previous...

To be completely honest, this photo shoot has been one of my fastest (total 30 minutes), but some of the best photos I think I've ever taken. Every time I look at these photos I think, "this is me. This is me as a photographer". The colors, the lighting, everything was perfect. So glad I got to take pictures of this fun family-- well, my rockin', awesome "sister". Also, I took these pics in August and never got around to posting them. Now, thanks to amazing pregnancy hormones I've been up since 2:45 am unable to sleep and gave up trying. So, I seem to have some extra time.

And I love that baby Clara is wearing "skinny" jeans. How stinkin' cute is that?!

"That darn wind!" was the first comment I made while I was doing this photo shoot. First off, we arrive at this awesome new location and then the wind picks up as soon as we unload everyone from the car. Us adults just looked at each other and shook our heads. Such is the life of on-site photography! We make best of the situation. But this family! I absolutely LOVE, get giddy, jump for joy, did I mention LOVE?, photographing their eyes. They are so big, deep and reflective. Love them. Despite the wind, I think we all had an enjoyable time. I think next time it's going to be an even bigger "play date" though!

And, I absolutely LOVE David's face in this photo. I always laugh when I see it. (He's the very far left...)

Talk about a fun shoot with boys! Photographing children is one of those things that when I get to the shoot I think, "Darn, I should've brought more interesting stuff to play with." Hopefully as I progress with taking pictures I'll get to the point where I'll walk away thinking, "There's no way these two were bored." At least they had things to climb on and rocks to throw, right?

Dad was hiding in the old barn and scaring them. It was cute.

Notice the wet eyes? Brother had a good hold of his neck in the first picture. :-) Brothers!

These next ones are my favorite. Now that I'll have two boys it just melts my heart to watch these two with their parents. I can't wait.

I went to PTA school with Christy and when she called me to do a shoot with her sister's family, I was ecstatic.

Especially because she had some other good news to share...

This couple was so fun to take pictures of! This particular day was one of the coldest that we have had down here in Houston in quite a while, but Jill had her outfits already planned out and she was such a trooper to make sure she stuck it out for a "good photo". Of course Justin was the trooper as well changing and just smiling for all the photos then helping Jill stay warm between shots-- probably wasn't hard though, huh?

Can I just say I love babies? Aren't they just the cutest little things? I just love everything about them. Especially seeing mommy and baby. It's just too precious to put in words. I'm continuing to progress in my photography and I'm very grateful for friends that are willing to help me in that progression. Thanks, Cathryn, for letting me play with Luke in the hot Houston weather as we watched for snakes in your backyard and constantly brushed ants off of the blankets. We love Texas... deep down. It's true. Luke didn't seem to mind the weather nor the animals. Such a gem...

Also while I was in Utah, I was able to do my awesome sister's family pictures. This time, we did them in Logan up the canyon and braved the Nature Trail. Simple, yet finally updated! Aren't her kids dolls? I love my family!

While I was back in Utah I had the opportunity to do my rockin' brother's family pictures. They were so fun and his cute wife wanted to get pictures taken for an upcoming job. How could I resist taking pictures in Ogden alleys when my brother knows them so well? He's had plenty of experiences breaking up some good fights... ;-) Here are just a few from our session and a couple of my favorites!

This next one is my absolute favorite. Picture me standing on top of a 3.5 ft. AC unit in the middle of a parking lot and the kids jumping and being crazy trying to get mom to laugh. Yes, it makes the photo a little more memorable!

Sadly, I had to take this the week I was leaving on vacation so they had to wait until now to be finished. I seriously love this lady. Isn't she one of the most beautiful pregnant women ever? Not to mention she rocks the black and white photos. It was so fun taking photos with her because we just laughed and talked the entire session. Too fun, Miss Cathryn!

This next shot is kind of fun because when I did her cute little boy's pictures (coming soon!!!) we put the rings around his little toes!

Her Big Debut

Introducing: Miss Gigi. She is the fourth to this rockin' family and such a fun little baby to do a photo session with. Seriously, if I have a girl, I'm going to have to take all of little Gigi's bows because I love bows as big as baby's heads! They are too cute!!

Tara (her cute mommy-- shown below) always finds the funnest props to take pictures with. I just about died when I saw this carriage.

Notice how much she loves this little binker? "Mom, ditch the bink, fast!"

"Or else we'll get..." Yup, she's mad.

But, with a little help from Mom, a very hot Houston day, and some time we patiently waited to get these...

I think the patience paid off on this one. Too cute!

Breath-taking Tara and more

Here is Tara. She's been my rock when it comes to taking pictures and I never tire of her fun ideas and creativity when it comes to capturing all the moments she wants in her life. She has personally helped me to grow into the photographer that I have become and continue to grow into. I LOVE HER! Anyways, she just added number four to her adorable litter and she let me do her maternity photos again.

It was also Kalani's birthday and we just had to catch his spunky little personality. He's such a doll. Seriously, a lady killer!

Well, Miss Bella wasn't going to miss her opportunity to shine, either!

Here I was, supposed to be on "vacation" and "mommy-leave" since I finished school and found out we were expecting baby #2, when all of a sudden, I found myself unable to resist the temptation of taking pictures. How many times do baby's begin their first days in the world? Or, can a mom feel this beautiful while topping the scales... or that I'm in Utah and I get ridiculously good scenery to work with? The answer to all of these questions is ONCE. So, needless to say, I'm a little busy... ;-)

This was the first photo session that I was able to enjoy live music while I worked. I think I need to stick him in my pocket while I go around during my sessions-- it relaxed me!! I love the guitar and I've been aching to do a photo shoot with one since I first started. I even bought my son a bright pink small one (that's all they had, trust me!) with intentions to paint it black so I could do a shoot with him and his guitar. =)

I had a lot of fun doing this photo session because I had never done a brother and sister before. I'll show you Brenna's work now and save Michael's for a later date.

Brenna has the most gorgeous shaped eyes! I love them! And, she totally rocked the serious face with very little coaching from my part. It was especially fun to see her personality really come through at the end of the session when she got a little more comfortable. Thanks, Brenna! You're beautiful!!

Oh, I just love this next one... so... whimsical? I don't know... mysterious. That's the word.

She absolutely loves the outdoors and being in nature.

This is where a brother comes in handy. We were in the middle of a busy street with people staring at us and luckily Michael was there to make her laugh in a subtle way. Thanks for being brave!

That Feeling...

Have you ever had that feeling that you finally captured what you wanted to with a family? That each little shot was special and that when you brought them home to look at them on your computer you just smiled? That's how I felt when I finished this session. Finally, after 2 years of being this family's photographer, I feel like I did them justice. They are an absolutely beautiful family and I finally felt like I really showed that through my lens. Granted, it took me 2 years of dedicated trial and error, getting angry with my computer, crying to my husband about not being good enough, staring at everyone else's beautiful work and beating myself up over what I need to do better... whew! I learned a lot over the last two years! I'm very proud of where I am today, but I have endless knowledge to obtain. Thank you for everyone's patience as I grow and develop as a photographer. Here's to my passion!

First off, I'm a sucker for red heads and this gal is absolutely gorgeous! She has the most beautiful and contagious smile and I was lucky enough to bring that smile out. Seriously, look at this up close and personal..

A lot of her photos just screamed "story" to me. They different than Kailey's and had a different feel...

This next one is by far my favorite. It was like I caught a reaction to a joke. It's Sacha... just being Sacha. My husband even likes this one the best. What a good man. I couldn't do it without him!

She's about to graduate and I'm going to come out and say it... "she looks hot!" Am I allowed to say that about someone underage on my blog? I'm just stating the obvious. She seriously can model... that girl!

I kept telling Kailey and Sacha that I needed some wind to just come up and blow their hair back. Obviously the wonderful man upstairs was paying attention and he answered my prayers right when my little finger was clicking...

This is by far my favorite picture. I can't figure out if it's the wood, her far distant look... I just think it's delicious!

I love the holidays...

I love the baking, the gatherings and especially the crispness in the air. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year to take pictures and I don't think I'm the only one! I'm already booked until February for photo shoots and I'm excited to show you these incredible seniors, families and children. Love them!

As I've grown in my photography over the past couple of years, I've come to know one thing... some photos are just too delicious to do in any other color than plain black and white. Also, some kids are just born with the most astonishing eyes. These two are unbelievable. I really did absolutely nothing to these eyes except for sharpen them. WOW!

Boys Will Be Boys

This photo shoot was especially fun because it was all boys for kids... which equals a lot of me saying, "Let's pose like we're on Star Wars, okay? You can be Darth Vader and you can be Luke." Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

They were a riot though... we seemed to find a lot of bugs too; that or the bugs found us. The oldest grandson kept finding all of these different bugs and actually holding them, not to mention a dragonfly landed on his dad's chest. Random...?

One unique quality this family had was that Art and June only had daughters... so far, there have only been grandsons born. I think somebody is making up for the fact that the dad had to deal with girls over-running his household throughout his life. :) Enjoy!

Can't Get Enough...

It was Kalani's birthday and we got to do a photo session with him in his Cat-in-the-Hat "get up". He enjoyed being in the spotlight for once! It was fun. It's been so exciting to watch this family grow and the kids change over the years. Miss Bella has turned into quite the little ham and Kalani still loves to do his own thing. I had a lot of fun chasing them around.

Yes, I'm back! Did you miss me? :-) Things are going wonderful here at the Mitchell home and our bundle of joy is doing amazing. He's growing so fast! I can't believe he's already 2 months old!! I feel like celebrating... how about you?

Okay, how about a GIVEAWAY?! I'm going to have a randomized drawing for a free mini-session (that's 45 minutes at one location). All you have to do to enter is to leave a comment with your e-mail address and tell me what your favorite Disney movie is and why. One rule: you do have to be local in the Houston area. Poor mothers who do this as a part-time gig don't get to travel much! I have no idea why I'm making it be based on Disney, but that's the first thing that popped into my head. Can I tell you a story while I'm at it? My senior year in high school I received the opportunity to travel to Florida for a Cheerleading Nationals (yes, I was a blonde cheerleader). We visited the usual Disney World and my heart was set on seeing my favorite Disney Character-- Donald Duck. I've always loved him and I've never quite figured out why. Maybe the temper... I do have a red-headed husband and now a red-headed son... just teasing... kind of... nevermind... :) The sad news is, I missed him every where we went. Even when he was scheduled they would change his schedule on me. I think I spent 5 hours one day dragging my friends along try to find him. The worst part... at 18 years old, I cried not being able to see Donald. Now that is probably one of the most pathetic stories I have, but if you can top that, please let me know!! I will announce the winner on my blog April 16th at 8:00 PM, so check back soon!

In the mean time, how about some cute pictures of this wonderful family? It's my son's adopted Grandparents since his biological ones are pretty far away. This is just a sneak peek, so much more to come!

Don't these two lovebirds just want to make you cuddle around your sweetie? Too fun that I got to do these pictures up in Idaho! I love how beautiful it is up there! Not to mention the sweet airport we found with an old plane, hay bail and blue building. Couldn't have asked for more. By the way, this is Brad's cousin Blaine-- he just got home from a mission in the summer, found himself a sweetie from Florida (Daylin) at BYU and now they're getting married in Miami. Easterners! I was so excited to take pictures of such a large family! These guys were SO much fun. I absolutely loved the entire session. The girls are natural little models which they get from their parents. Thanks for bearing the rain and having fun with me for the day! I loved the rain effect.

Tate got baptized shortly after our session so it was a special day of pictures for him! Congrats, Tate!!

I thought it was hilarious that the kids were making faces when they saw mom and dad kissing. We all couldn't stop laughing. I think some of them thought it was really cute and got shy. :)

Chamberlain Sneak Preview!

This family was SO much fun! There were 9 total, two sets of twins included, and this was my first big family with older children so I got to try a lot of fun things with the kids. These girls cracked me up the entire time, though. Tsk on me if I'm creating bad habits here, but I had to keep telling them to be sassy when they would strike a pose like this. SO CUTE!

And of course, the model couple. They're such a beautiful couple and so natural with each other. I felt like I was doing engagements with them because you could just feel the love!

I'll tell you one thing, these little ones were adorable. Oh, they loved to pose! These ones where they're in their tutus reminded me of when I was little and used to pretend I was a fairy. So precious!

Impatient

After doing this session, all I can say was that I was SO impatient to get these photos done that here we are, only 3 hours later from the session, I had a healthy lunch, moved furniture back to where it's supposed to go and chatted with my husband and I have 3 beautiful photos to share. Tara is a supermodel... seriously, GORGEOUS! I pray that I only look half as good as she does when I'm pregnant. I have plenty more to come. Mind you, her children come out just as beautiful, she already has two!! I also need to add that she is pure joy to do photos with-- a photographers dream. She loves sassy and funky ideas and I know I can do just about anything with her. LOVE IT!

Sam was a riot! I loved chasing this little guy around and seeing him light up when he got all of the attention. He's been working on his sign language and it was so fun to understand what he was saying being this young (I used to be a lot better at ASL; I think I just found a practicing buddy!).

We're being serious now... I think I was crawling through a bunch of weeds and brush and he was trying to figure out what the heck I was doing.

Mom and Grandma were about to get him. He was slyly taunting them. :)

Oh my heavens, this boy loved water! He was soaking wet by the time we finished letting him play in the water, but those are the best things! I love just letting them play with something they enjoy. You can always get the most genuine shots.

He just sat up there and posed for me, randomly!

I don't know if we were allowed to do this, but the things we do for good shots, right? I have a couple where Mom and Grandma got in on the action in the fountain as well.

He started up his own game of peek-a-boo when he was being held in these next two. It was so cute!

What a huge blessing this little guy is. I couldn't wait to take his pictures when our friends brought him home. He was a little camera shy after a while and didn't want his picture taken anymore, but we got him in a position that worked so he fell asleep. It was funny trying to move the furniture around and pick him up awkwardly so he wouldn't wake up. That is why you'll see him with mostly one blanket and in the same position. Oh the things we'll do to make it work for the babies, right?

I love little baby feet! Oh, they make me melt...

Cathryn & Buttercup

I think this has been one of my favorite sessions. Cathryn let me do whatever I wanted to with her harp and her, we broke the law and we left a lot of boys broken hearted... well, she did at least. And yes, we did have an awkward clothing change situation in the HEB parking lot. :) I apologize, Cathryn, for laughing the entire day. I had WAY too much fun.

Cathryn is both beautiful and very photogenic. I think the pictures speak for themselves. But, I do have to tell you about this picture...

So, these poor boys were circling the parking lot when I was taking Cathryn's pictures against this red wall. They stopped in the middle of the aisle, blocking all traffic, and stared at her for a while. Cathryn muttered between smiles that they weren't leaving so I kindly put down my camera and gave them the "Excuse me..." look. They stuttered, "Oh, uh, you can keep taking your pictures. We were just watching you."

Okay, if that's not awkward enough. Then he says, "Hey, what is that?" Pointing to the harp. Cathryn kindly smiled and said, "Uh, it's a harp." He stared with his mouth open, "Really? It's so beautiful! I've never seen one up close." I was rolling my eyes by this time and Cathryn was as witty as ever, "Behold..." she said right as soon as I snapped the photo. Then I just started laughing as I realized the shot that I got. "Perfect!" I thought. Yeah, they still didn't leave for a while though until they had a lot of cars backed up behind them. Can't blame them though!!

Sassy Shoes

I just love these shoes. I feel like a sassy, long-legged hot woman. It's amazing how Ann Taylor Loft can create such incredible emotions out of two 6 inch knobs you place on the bottom of your feet. Yes, I feel completely and totally random about doing a post on my amazing black heels, but I loved the shot and I was practicing "detail" shots while I was at the temple one day. Have I ever mentioned how much I love the Houston Temple... and these great shoes? Cathryn (my harpist -- is that a word??) loves them too. I let her use them so I could get her to be sassy. It worked. :)

Let me introduce you to Christine. Christine is an INCREDIBLE massage therapist. She's very specialized for sports massage therapy and understands stretching, deep tissue, relaxation and many other techniques. She knows how to give a really good Swedish Massage, but also helps athletes while they are training because of all her tricky maneuvers. Did I mention she's awesome? In case I didn't... she's really awesome. She's creating a website and starting to advertise a little more so I did her portraits for her. She's currently at Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine and Rehab clinic located in the YMCA at Branch Crossing. (Yes, this is where I work for physical therapy). If you're in need of a little down-time or getting a little looser-- she's your woman! Might I add that this first photo is almost a SOOC (straight out of the camera) shot? Her eyes are stunning!!

Oh, Abby was so funny! Bless her and her mom for allowing me to keep them even though it was coming on nap time. Isn't she such a beautiful lady? In some of the pictures she looks older than she is! She's gorgeous!! Mom and dad, you're going to have to keep the boys at bay! Maybe with the new little brother he can help? :) By the way, it was so funny, all Abby wanted to do was play in the water but when it came time to let her, she didn't want anything to do with the fountains.

I had so much fun chasing this little guy around. I got a sliver from the railroad tracks and came back just as dirty as he was because I was laying all over the ground to get better shots of him. He teased me the whole time by trying not to look at me when I had the camera up to my face. Luckily his mom distracted him a couple of times. I just love this little boy to pieces!

So, first I tried getting Brad to model for me. In the end, he ended up with the camera 90% of the time taking pictures of me and all of the blue bonnets. I love him and he's amazing with pictures! We just wanted to play around because we could. We absolutely LOVE Brenham, Texas.

Can I just tell everyone how much fun I had doing this family's portraits? I couldn't stop smiling because the Lewis' sure do know how to enjoy themselves. Little Sophie DEFINITELY knows when a camera is near. My job's pretty easy when I have 5 kids that look like this.
